For a small bathroom, tiles of small sizes, light color, smooth or low-relief texture are ideal. A smooth surface of the finishing material is better suited for the floor. Textured, cramped is allowed on the walls.
The shape of each tile is not crucial in the choice. Each unit can be square, rectangular, triangular, hexagonal. If the room is narrow, then you can visually expand it with light tiles and panel edging – narrow tiles of contrasting color.
Selection by Shades and Colors
To understand how to choose a tile for a small bathroom, it is important to know the rules of color combination and their visual perception by a person:
- Light colors always create the illusion of expanding space;
- The most light tones – bring a sense of spaciousness and freedom;
- Bright shades – colorfulness and diversity;
- If the room is small, there is no need to get attached to monotony.
Of course, the Scandinavian style of the bathroom interior may require sticking exclusively to white, and high-tech steel gray. But they can always be diluted with small details of other shades – a black stripe, panel edging, cornice or vertical stripes (in case of low ceilings).
Color Matching Rules
- One or two primary colors;
- No more than 3-4 shades as additional, or contrasting accents;
- Light – white, light gray, milky, vanilla, cold blue, cold light olive, highlighted pink, elegant ecru (gray-peach), sandy, beige;
- The ceiling needs white tiles or other finishes.
The color is distributed on the walls depending on the geometry of the space. Narrow areas are expanded with a light tone, long and too wide with a dark one by only a couple of gradations.
Accent inserts of contrasting paints can visually expand the room.
The main principle is that light tones are located at the top, more saturated ones are located at the bottom.
Blue, light gray, light gray-brown, muted green at the bottom and in the middle go well with white and any light color at the top.
For the bathroom, tiles of cold or intermediate tones are most suitable. It is recommended to use basic colors and a little shade.
Dark and gloomy colors hide the space most of all. Therefore, it is better to give up black, blue, turquoise, brown, dark green and even red.
From warm tones, the following options are suitable as accents: yellow (all shades), lemon, orange, warm-blooded light red, olive towards yellowness, pleasant light or juicy brown. The matte texture muffles the perception, making it softened, cozy, and slightly reduces the spatiality, giving the room a more compact and cramped appearance.
